Catherine Régis

Chair / Tenured Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Montreal

Catherine Régis is a tenured professor at University of Montreal’s Faculty of Law and chairholder at the Canada Research Chair in Collaborative Culture in Health Law and Policy. She is also a regular researcher at the Centre de recherche en droit public (public law research centre). Before joining University of Montreal, she was a professor at University of Sherbrooke’s Faculty of Law and from 2008 to 2012 was the director of the graduate programs in health law and policy. She holds a bachelor's degree in law from University of Montreal, a master’s degree in health law from University of Sherbrooke, a certificate in clinical ethics from University of Geneva, and a Doctorate in Law (J.S.D) from University of Toronto. Her doctoral thesis, supervised by Professor Colleen M. Flood, focused on the optimality of conflict resolution methods for healthcare accessibility issues in Canada. Professor Régis has been a member of the Barreau du Québec (Quebec bar association) since 1999 and is an accredited mediator.

The recipient of numerous awards, scholarships, and grants, notably from the Canada Research Chairs Program, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and the Fonds de recherche Société et culture (Quebec research fund – society and culture) of the government of Québec, Professor Régis is regularly solicited by the healthcare network to work as a consultant and trainer. She collaborates with a number of interdisciplinary and international research teams, especially in medicine, management, and psychology.  She has also been a member of various committees in the health and social services sector, including the Consultation Forum of the Health and Welfare Commissioner of Québec until 2011, and the Comité d’éthique en santé publique (public health ethics committee) of the government of Québec until 2007. She has also been a visiting professor at Paris Descartes University and Montpellier I University.
